Dear Subscriber

This time we bring you information about to new projects - GATEWAY and CEMCAP - funded by the EU Horizon 2020 program. The projects are not formally parts of BIGCCS, but still highly relevant. We also provide information about behaviour-driven natural convection mechanisms in CO2 storage, and a blog on CO2 flow in pipes.

Don't forget to check out the preliminary program for the TCCS-8 conference. And, don't forget to register for the conference.

Enjoy your reading!

From the BIGCCS Team

GATEWAY – connecting CO2 sources to a central storage site

GATEWAY is a new Horizon 2020 project focusing on accelerating CCS deployment. The strategy is to develop a model case aimed at commencing an initial cross-border gateway connecting available CO2 sources and possible sinks. Project coordinator, Dr. Marie Bysveen, and, Dr. Jens Hetland, describe the project on SINTEF Energy’s blog. Read more

Horizon 2020 project on CO2 capture for a low-emission cement industry

Five percent of global man-made CO2 emissions are caused by cement production. BIGCCS researcher, Dr. Kristin Jordal coordinates the new Horizon 2020 project CEMCAP, which will investigate suitable technologies for reducing CO2 emissions from cement production. Read more

Behaviour of density-driven natural convection mechanism

Storage of CO2 in geological formations is a reasonable technical choice for decreasing carbon dioxide emissions to the atmosphere. Brine aquifers are considered one of the most favorable options for this purpose and leakage of CO2 from these storage sites is one of the main concerns. PhD student Amir Taheri reports. Read more

Flow of CO2 in pipes

SINTEF Chief Scientist, Dr. Svend Tollak Munkejord has issued a new blog article on flow of CO2 in pipes. The blog is based on modelling work performed in the CO2 Dynamics project. Read more

TCCS-8

The preliminary conference program is now available and can be found here. More information about the conference can be found on the conference website. Please, note that registration must be done prior to the conference (not possible on-site).
