This Saturday! SSM Hosts Quiz Bowl
Shattuck-St. Mary's is excited to welcome 61 teams from 24 Minnesota schools at Quiz Bowl on Saturday, November 12. Quiz Bowl is an academic game in which teams of four players compete against each other to "buzz in" to answer questions about history, science, literature, mathematics, geography, current events, popular culture, and pretty much any other conceivable subject. Top middle school and high school finishers will qualify for the national tournaments held in 2017. For additional tournament information, click here.

Fall Student Research Symposium

Students from Shattuck-St. Mary’s BioScience, Engineering, and The Major Centers of Excellence and the Honors Program showcased their impressive work to faculty members and peers during the Fall Student Research Symposium on Wednesday, November 9. Participating students transformed Fayfield Hall and the weCreate Center into a gallery of compelling, innovative project presentations, fielding questions and suggestions from visiting SSM community members.

Each Honors Program, BioScience, and The Major student prepared a Symposium poster that outlined a particular area of focus, the research they have conducted so far, and the key questions they hope to pursue and answer through additional research. Topics ranged from color theory and the origins of the Universe to the detailed study of neuroscience, and innovative ways to address arthritis and degenerative disc disease. Meanwhile, Engineering students held an open house in Fayfield 102 where they showcased their work through presentations and hands-on demonstrations. We look forward to seeing how these ambitious, thoughtful, and rigorous projects progress throughout the school year.
