Minnesnowta Days
Minnesnowta Days, for the Middle School, began the evening of Thursday, January 19 with a skating party.  All levels of skating ability were represented. The skating event was followed up with a pizza party,  a dance, and then a late night movie! Lights went out at 1:30 a.m.  On Friday, students and faculty slept in a bit, had breakfast and then all went to Basher’s Bowling Alley for some bowling fun!  A true “snow day”- no classes, relaxing, and fun!
6th & 7th Graders Visit Eagle Bluff
On January 17-19, the 6th and 7th grade went to Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center in Lanesboro, MN.  We did a lot of fun activities including snowshoeing, rock climbing, archery, and group activities. Some people even got to feed a vulture! We also came out of this with several awards to decorate our Eagle Bluff trophy shelf. We won a knee hockey tournament against the Eagle Bluff staff 7-6 (We now have ultimate bragging rights). We also won the Eagle Eye award and we have our School’s name on the golden plate for no food waste. We had a really awesome time at Eagle Bluff!

ScholarShift Stories: Visiting a Creative Agency

Led by Director of weCreate Stephanie Vagle, students traveled to Minneapolis to visit the offices of Knock, Inc., a creative advertising agency, as part of a ScholarShift module on Wednesday, January 25.

Students enjoyed a "lunch and learn" session with Creighton King, vice president of creative execution and Reggie Reyes, vice president of brand experience, and had the opportunity to tour Knock’s Minneapolis headquarters during their visit. Students were also exposed to the creative process of a leading advertising agency and had inside access to how Knock creates love for brands through a variety of audience experiences.

“I really liked listening to how the creative process worked at Knock, and just how much emphasis is placed into the tiny details, like tags on shoes and the texture of a sign,” said Peter Adkins ’18. “I also enjoyed seeing the videos they put together, as those types of projects spark my interest. There are many different kinds of roles at a company like Knock, there’s truly a job and a place for everyone.”

Knock, Inc. is an independent, full-experience creative design agency with clients that include Target, Levi’s Sony, New Balance, Caribou Coffee, L’Oréal Paris, and many other national and international brands. They also have offices in New York City, Chicago, and San Francisco.

For more information on the agency, visit knockinc.com.

Shot of the Week

At the MS Fall Fun Night in October, Jakob Karpa '20 and David Ma '20 were the winning bidders of the “Once in a lifetime Ice Fishing Experience with Mr. Frankenfield!”

On Friday, January 20, Mr. Frankenfield took Jakob and David out on a local lake. Mr. Frankenfield refused to divulge the exact lake. He didn’t want to give away a hot spot!

The boys used a hand auger to cut through the 20 inches of ice. They baited up their lines, sat down on plastic pails, and got fishing! Jakob and David caught a few sun fish, as well as one large crappie. Mr. Frankenfield said that they plan to have a fish fry soon to enjoy the fruits of their labor!
