Office of NYS Comptroller Releases Broadband Report

The report found that while only 0.8% of Columbia County's population lives in an area without broadband availability, 15.1% in the County do not currently have access. Representative Antonio Delgado, Senator Daphne Jordan, and Assemblymember Didi Barrett commended  the report for highlighting the need to continue making progress on broadband access. CEDC also recently released  the Board of Supervisors Broadband Study, identifying  gaps in the County's broadband coverage in anticipation of federal, state and local funds becoming available. The study was conducted by MC Fiber Services, and identified  approximately 1,200 unserved 911 addresses in the county. See all of the data, maps, and final report here: County-Wide Broadband Study

CEDC Congratulates Former Board Member Greg Fingar 

The Columbia County Association in the City of New York honored former long-time CEDC Board Member Greg Fingar, President of Fingar Insurance, at its 120th Annual Dinner. CEDC board member Jim Calvin served as Master of Ceremonies. The Association was founded in 1901 “to pursue charitable, literary and historical endeavors and to to cultivate and perpetuate friendship between county residents who had moved to New York City and to keep memories alive of Columbia County."

State Manufacturing Day Upcoming

FuzeHub and its partners are hosting 2021 Virtual Manufacturing Day on October 15th, an online event that is expected to draw nearly 100 manufacturers, educational and training resources, and other organizations with valuable information to share. Register and learn more here.

Fuzehub has released a report on manufacturing careers, which noted that 4.6 million manufacturing jobs openings are expected in the next decade and that New York has the highest average manufacturing career salary of any state. Manufacturing Careers By the Numbers - FuzeHub

Columbia County Indicators


Unemployment and Jobs
The latest unemployment rate for Columbia County is 4.0%, while the statewide rate is 7.1%. Last year at this time, the County rate was 6.8% and the State rate was 11.6%. There are now 30,100 private jobs in the county, compared to 30,600 last year. Click here for data from the NYS Dept. of Labor.



Housing Market
Data from the NYS Association of Realtors for August of 2021 showed that Columbia County’s new listings were down 40%, closed sales were down 20%, and inventory was down 41.5% compared to this time last year. The median sales price was $367,000 compared to $347,000 last year. Click here for access the NYSAR reports.



Sales Tax Collections
Columbia County sales tax revenue in August of 2021 was $4 million, which is a 23.7% increase from last year. The $4 million collected in 2021 is also up from the $3.5 million collected in August 2019 before the pandemic.  Statewide sales tax collections are up 15.5% year over year for August. Click here for data from the NYS Dept. of Taxation and Finance.
