CEDC has released data from a study requested by the Board of Supervisors on gaps in the County's broadband coverage in anticipation of new federal funds becoming available. The study was conducted by MC Fiber Services, and identified 1,100 unserved dwellings in twelve towns. Unemployment and Jobs
The latest unemployment rate for Columbia County is 4.2%, while the statewide rate is 7.4%. Last year at this time, the County rate was 9.1% and the State rate was 14.8%. There are now 29,100 private jobs in the county, compared to 28,000 last year. Click here for data from the NYS Dept. of Labor.
Data from the NYS Association of Realtors for the July of 2021 showed that Columbia County’s new listings were down 37%, closed sales were down 20.5%, and inventory was down 35.7% compared to this time last year. Sales Tax Collections
Columbia County sales tax revenue in the Second Quarter of 2021 was $14.6 million, which is a 49.7% increase from last year. Statewide sales tax collections are up 49.2% year over year for the Second Quarter, and collections exceed 2019 levels from before the COVID-19 pandemic for both the state and county. Hudson Valley Patterns for Progress reported on the increasing Hispanic population throughout the region as identified in the 2020 US census. In Columbia County, the percentage of people identifying as Hidspanic increased from 3.7% to 5.8%. Read the report here.

Held every day throughout September, the event features nearly 150 events for enthusiasts of the Hudson Valley culture and geography.
