Here's some more photos from our anti-war workshop! Kapil Pandey held a week long anti-war folk song workshop with the young people of Kutumb's Indradhanush programme. Each day, the children would read the lyrics of a folk song, and try to understand the meaning. Then, Kapil would lead them in several renditions of the songs. Afterwards, they discussed the song's possible meanings together.
Austin held a workshop on World War I with the Advanced English batch students. Indradhanush students learned about the causes of the war within a broader framework of European colonialism and imperialism. They also learned about India's involvement in the war and the war's long-term legacy. Contemporary events such as the rise of ISIS, the Arab Spring and the conflicts in Israel, Syria and Iraq were discussed in relationship to the outcomes of World War I.
As a follow-up to anti-war week, Indradhanush students screened a documentary on America's nuclear attacks on Japan. The film featured interviews with survivors of the blasts and American military personnel. Each week a film is screened at Indradhanush and students create presentations and write papers based on what they have learned in that week's film. Volunteers from Lady Shri Ram College are also assisting with this initiative.
