In the fall of 2018, the Gadsden Arts Center & Museum will host two solo exhibitions featuring artists Mark Messersmith and Carrie Ann Baade, whose work focuses on challenging humanity’s impact, and relationship with, the environmental, sociological, and economic climates.

Art Education

This past summer, over 20 area middle and high school students spent a week immersed in the rich history Tallahassee has to offer. In a program run by two Art Education faculty members, teens learned about the Civil Rights Movement through firsthand accounts.

Art History

Letter from the Chair: Each year, I look forward to seeing new and familiar faces on campus and in the hallways. I am especially thrilled to note that in addition to a dynamic incoming cohort of students we are also welcoming three new faculty members this year.


The School of Dance is excited to welcome Assistant Professor Caleb Mitchell to the Studio Practice and Composition faculty. Caleb is teaching Ballet this semester and will provide valuable one-on-one mentorship to the students in their dance program.

Interior Architecture & Design

This summer, Interior Architecture & Design students participated in the newly launched summer study abroad program led by Professor Lisa Waxman in London. Organized with the help of the FSU International Programs office, students studied the history of design.


A musical adaptation of “Tootsie” is making its way onto the stage this fall with Music Theatre alums Leslie Donna Flesner (‘08) and Harris Milgrim (‘10) in the ensemble. “Tootsie – A Musical Comedy” is based upon the 1982 film of the same name.

Museum of Fine Arts

The Florida State University Museum of Fine Arts is excited to announce the opening of the 33rd Tallahassee International. Works by artists from six countries and 19 states cover a range of media, styles, and approaches while dealing with an array of relevant contemporary issues.

Facility for Arts Research

FAR is excited to announce the first annual FAR & Away Residency series. Over the course of the school year, four artists will be commissioned to spend a week working at FAR- Monica Martinez, Carole Garmon, Chris Kardambikis, and Olivia Valentine.


Chris Cameron, a Media Specialist for MANCC, has a short-form documentary of Alice Sheppard’s fall 2017 residency which has been selected for The Other Film Festival, the first and foremost disability film festival in Australia, and will screen in November 2018.

FSU / Asolo Conservatory

The FSU/Asolo Conservatory opens its season with Tom Stoppard’s “Arcadia” (October 30 – November 18, 2018), “Ghosts” (January 1 – 20, 2019), “Reckless” (February 19 – March 10, 2019), and “As You Like It” (April 9 – 27, 2019).
