NSIV Member Spotlight - Tribiotica

In recent years, the ground-breaking industry of immunotherapy has come to the forefront of cancer treatment. Though still not as commonly used as chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery, immunotherapy aims to make tumors an easy target for the body’s own self-defense mechanisms, thus producing less serious side effects. One limitation, however, is that immunotherapy treatments typically require a certain genetic marker to be present on the surface of a tumor, and there’s no guarantee that a patient will have it. TriBiotica is working to develop a solution for this. If they succeed, it could revolutionize cancer treatment as we know it.

TriBiotica was founded by three scientists with over sixty years of collective experience in immunology research and 150 publications between them. Their Haplomer™ therapeutic approach, consists of a matched pair of nucleic acid-peptide conjugates that will be injected into the blood stream.

“The way that our technology works, we can very specifically target the tumors with two different molecules, and those molecules will come together — or template — only inside of tumor cells, not normal cells,” says Gary Magnant, CEO. “When the two molecules come together, an active protein is made which can make the tumor a target... read more

What's New & Keeping up with NSIV Staff

First, we are proud to again be awarded a Massachusetts Life Sciences Center Competitive Capital Program grant:

North Shore InnoVentures – $1,650,000
"Since 2012, North Shore InnoVentures (NSIV) and Endicott College have forged a successful partnership to deliver on the mission to foster and support regional life science startups. Today this collaboration continues as NSIV will now manage the expanding Endicott College incubator space to better support the increasing number and range of life sciences startups active in the North Shore region of the state.

MLSC funding will expand infrastructure capacity at NSIV and obtain key instrumentation for both the NSIV and Endicott facilities that will serve as a catalyst for startups’ product development and facilitate training of a highly skilled workforce for the life sciences industry. The advanced instrumentation at NSIV and Endicott College will be used by startups, student interns from the region’s high schools, community college, and four-year colleges, in addition to, companies across Massachusetts more broadly.

The economic impact of this project will include: helping to create and fill high-quality life-sciences jobs in Massachusetts; better preparing the workforce for those jobs; and affording early-stage life sciences companies in the region access to tools and services to enhance their potential for growth and success." NECEC's Navigate Northeast Summit featured Trish Fleming, NSIV's Director of Mentoring, as moderator of a panel discussion on the relationship between cleantech investors and entrepreneurial support organizations last week in New York City.  The Navigate Summit brought together cleantech organizations from all over the Northeast to talk about common issues, public policy, and exchange ideas.  There was broad representation from New York, as well as representatives from New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts.

On May 22,Tom Kinneman, VP and COO at NSIV, participated in a panel sponsored by the Cape Ann Innovators Collaborative for a discussion about the future of the workplace.

Next month, NSIV CEO & President Chris Ilsley, is off to BIO 2019 in Philadelphia.
With more than 16,000 attendees from around the world (67 countries) and more than 500 sessions, it's sure to be a great networking environment. This year's theme, "It Starts with One," emphasizes the global impact of the small innovative efforts of many.
We'll recap Chris' takeaways next month.

Again this year, NSIV hosted the Biotech Vendor Services (BVS) show at our Cummings Center offices on May 1st with 16 vendors in attendance.
This open house format provides a great opportunity for companies to conveniently make connections with a wide variety of biotech vendors. NSIV companies and a steady stream of visitors enjoyed the "speed dating" aspect of the vendor showcases, quickly linking researchers and suppliers.
