Message from the Interim Superintendent
I hope that everyone had a restful and joyous holiday season.   As we welcome in the New Year, I am excited about the upcoming spring time and with that, spring testing.  Now that the holidays are behind us, it is important that we set our sights and our focus on preparing for LEAP and ACT testing.  Please stress routines and procedures in your classrooms and around school.  Routines in the classroom help to minimize classroom disruptions and to maximize instructional time.
During the last board meeting on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, the board approved a number of construction projects and accepted substantial completion on several other projects.  One of our largest projects is the renovation of the Breaux Bridge Junior High School campus.  Several buildings at the BBJH site were renovated and additions to two buildings were completed.  All work on the BBJH site should be completed in the very near future.
Prior to the start of the meeting, our three new board members were sworn in.  During the meeting, the auditor’s gave the audit report and St. Martin Parish had only one minor finding.  Following the audit report, the board retired to Executive Session, then the board meeting adjourned.
An Education Committee meeting was held on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 with the topic being STEM in the St. Martinville Schools.  The four St. Martinville schools presented information about their activities and what their students are learning in the program.
In closing I would like to remind everyone to “Shop St. Martin Parish First” and support our local businesses.  Remember that shopping locally keeps our sales tax dollars at home.
Next Board Meeting: February 6, 2019

School Board members, including three newly-elected members, were sworn in on Wednesday, January 9th, by Judge Anthony Thibodeaux.  Additionally, Russel Foti and Steve Fuselier were elected president and vice-president, respectively.

  Finance News
We just received our annual audit report and had another great year.  The numbers below are a combination of the general fund, group health fund, and sales tax 2 fund.  All three funds had excess revenues over expenditures, general fund $284,283, group health $715,280 and sales tax $332,557.  We continue to remain financially stable, which will help us close the gap on the funds that we will lose this year due to student loss.  Sales tax collections have improved, YTD we are slightly above last year, which is a good indication the economy is improving.  Click here to read more.
