Dear Startups, Partners, Friends, and Fellow Climate Optimists,

We hope this email finds you and your loved ones healthy and safe during these trying times. As we all adjust to our new routines balancing family care, work priorities, and market shifts, we’d like to recognize the healthcare professionals who are on the frontlines tackling COVID-19—thank you for the admirable work you’re doing everyday.

History has shown us that some of the brightest ideas are sparked during the darkest days. Major technological advancements have been born out of hard times and financial downturns, and because of this we remain optimistic that through partnership and collaboration we will emerge from this challenging time stronger than we entered it.

That’s why we believe it’s more critical than ever before to support early-stage entrepreneurs who are developing solutions for a sustainable future. Building a startup is hard enough. Navigating a pandemic on top of it can feel utterly overwhelming. We want startups to know we share their concerns for their family's health and the success of their business, and we're going to be here for them every step of the way.

We’re grateful to our friends in the investment community who share these views and recently issued an open letter to startup founders and CEOs reassuring them of their long-term support—special thanks to Clean Energy Ventures, Clean Energy Venture Group, and the MassCEC. Thank you also to our fellow Massachusetts-based businesses and organizations that have been advocating for small business relief and support for those affected by COVID-19.

We’re proud to be part of such a passionate, supportive, entrepreneurial ecosystem and appreciate our community’s graciousness, thoughtfulness, and courage during these unique circumstances. We’re particularly proud of our member company Biobot Analytics that’s using its sewage analysis technology to measure the spread of COVID-19, and of our partners that are taking swift action to contribute resources to hospitals around the world—see below to learn more.

We will get through this difficult time together through innovation, resiliency, and a shared commitment for a better tomorrow.

Stay well,
The Greentown Labs Team

How we're keeping our community connected:

We’re prepared to support our members as they navigate extra challenges during this uncertain time. We’ve rolled out a number of virtual programming offerings, including our new Investor Speaker Series, which provides insights on how startup founders can navigate an uncertain economy, manage investor relationships, and build company resilience. The first iteration of this series will take place on Friday, March 27 at noon ET featuring Matthew Nordan, Managing Director of Prime Impact Fund and Greentown Board Member; Tibor Toth, Managing Director of Investments at MassCEC; and Mitch Tyson, Partner at Clean Energy Venture Group and Greentown Board Member.

Next week we will release a summary of Matthew, Tibor, and Mitch’s presentation but if you’re a startup and you’re interested in receiving a link to the recording of the session, please reach out

To encourage #physicaldistancing while bolstering #socialconnections, we’re offering our members many ways to virtually stay engaged with our community during this uniquely challenging time, including Zoom Town Hall (see photo below), afternoon teatime, new Slack channels, and pairing members for video coffee chats.

Are you part of a community that’s adjusting to remote connectivity? How are you keeping in touch? Let us know @GreentownLabs
