2018 INTERNATIONAL POETRY & STORYTELLING COMPETITION FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
 

Each year, in honor of MLK Day, the World Affairs Council of Harrisburg sponsors an International Poetry & Storytelling Festival to highlight accomplished writers and encourage young talent. The Council will announce the winners of the student writing competition as well as feature acclaimed poets and storytellers from our region and around the world.
Students are asked to write on a topic related to peace, social justice and appreciation for diversity.

2017 WACA National Scholarship winner!
Sabria Fountain, an intern with the World Affairs Council of Harrisburg and a senior at Elizabethtown College, received a scholarship to attend the 2017 National Conference of the World Affairs Councils of America in November in Washington, D.C.
Sabria was selected to offer remarks on behalf of the college students attending the conference, and her comments were widely lauded for their eloquence and sincerity.

WELCOME 2017-18 Global Scholars !
High School Students from Cumberland Valley, Harrisburg Academy, Carlisle High, Hershey High and Central Dauphin High have signed up to participate in the 2017-18 Global Scholars Certificate Program. The program allo ws youth to delve into international affairs and interact with globally minded students online and at WACH events.
Teachers/Counselors working with the Council to recommend Global Scholars have honorary membership in the World Affairs Council of Harrisburg and can participate in many WACH events free of charge.
At the end of the school year, participating students and teachers are honored at the World Affairs Council of Harrisburg’s annual Torch of Global Enlightenment Awards.
