Join the National Youth Folk Ensemble!

National Youth Folk Ensemble
Applications are now open for the 2017-18 National Youth Folk Ensemble! We are looking for excellent instrumentalists aged 14-18 who love collaborating with others and are dedicated to developing as folk musicians.

The first stage of the audition process is to attend a free Sampler Day in May or June. Sampler Days take place around the country and include creative group workshops with leading folk musicians.

Sunday 12 March, 3 – 5pm

Held monthly on Sunday afternoons, our barn dances are an excellent opportunity for different family generations to discover the world of folk dance and music together in a relaxed, sociable atmosphere.

Folk Educators Group – next practitioner development day

Folk Educators Group
The next practitioner development meeting will be held on Sunday 5 March 2017 hosted by Folkworks at Sage Gateshead. The theme for the day is Pass It On - The Tradition in Your Hands, and ties in with their Pass It On Festival on 3 and 4 March.

As part of the new EFDSS Dance Development programme, this invaluable half day training course will be led by Mike Ruff, experienced folk dance educator and co-author of The Maypole Manual, a copy of which will be given to all course participants.

Inter Varsity Folk Dance Festival

24 - 26 February 2017

EFDSS will once again be sponsoring the big Saturday night ceilidh at this fabulous festival! We'll have a stand there all day on the Saturday, with two EFDSS Folk Dance Ambassadors from our Youth Forum and be running a bite sized version of our How To Teach English Social Folk Dance on the Sunday morning.

Resource of the Month

Resource Bank
We are excited to share a new resource with you. The Essex Folk Song Discovery resource is full of fantastic songs tutors Aimeé Leonard and Nick Hart taught school children across the Uttlesford region of Essex last summer. The tutors researched and arranged songs that had links to the local history, and had been collected from the area. We hope you enjoy it!

Come and discover how inclusive and accessible folk music can be by attending this one-day training course on Tuesday 14 March 2017 at Cecil Sharp House. This course is for music leaders and school teachers, particularly those delivering in primary and SEN/D schools. Promoted by Sound Connections in partnership with EFDSS.

Inspire Event - Music Excellence London

Music Excellence London
This free one-day conference for music educators run by Music Excellence London in partnership with EFDSS, is taking place on Thursday 23 February 2017 at Cecil Sharp House. It will address the topic of inclusion and engagement in Key Stage 3 Music classrooms and will include an inclusive ceilidh band workshop led by the EFDSS Education team.
