Saskatoon Search & Rescue

January 2016

A Year in Review

2015 was another very busy year for Saskatoon Search and Rescue. It's amazing how much a small group of people can do. (True of all SAR teams!) Read our "Year in Review" here

What's Happening

Our last training days of 2015 occurred in early December with Rebecca Basset leading the final evaluations for some of the Basic Searchers and planning a search scenario that tested the skills of all members.

Congratulations to Jay Brown, Dale Liebrecht and Miles Waghray who completed their skills evaluations.

Tracy and Diane VanBrabant shared their experiences from the SARscene conference in Prince Edward Island. There is so much to be learned at these conferences and we hope to have more of our members attend next year's conference in Edmonton.

Thanks to Lardners Trailer Sales for looking after us with the annual maintenance check on the command trailer.

Thanks to Kent and Tanya Orosz for hosting the annual SSAR Christmas party!

In December

On December 22 we were activated by the Saskatoon Police Service to search for a missing 11 year old girl. We had three members just arriving at scene and several more enroute when she was located safely.

On December 26 we were again activated by the Saskatoon Police Service. The missing subject was a 54 year old male with health and mental health concerns. It was an extremely cold -23C night and both police and his caregivers were worried for his safety. Fourteen SSAR members were able to attend. After an hour of searching, the subject was located thanks to social media and the public.
