How's your heart today?
To me, this is the question that matters most that you rarely (if ever) hear people ask.
If we desire tenderness and sweetness from the world (family, friends, partners, children, strangers, pets), we must be willing to offer the most loving, patient, compassionate, good-hearted parts of ourselves to those around us. How do we do that when things feel hectic, annoying, frustrating, and chaotic? That's the magic of learning to sit with yourself and your thoughts. Over time, the mind settles-- and becomes more peaceful and clear.
You can practice this in many ways: journaling, prayer, meditation, art, music, watching sunsets, breathing... This month, I hope you can learn to befriend and nurture yourself in meaningful ways. Spend at least a little time alone each day doing something that brings you joy. Even if it's 5 or 10 minutes! Then, watch your experiences begin to shift. Remember, without you -- none of those other relationships exist.
