A Few Words Before We Begin
Hello <<First Name>>,
With the chilly weather comes the end of one harvest and the waiting for another here in Ontario (Icewine), it is still too early for that so let's look at some great Ontario wines that are on the market right now - I call these "the one's you need to get".

Also in this e-blast be sure to check out the latest videos and podcasts links now available for your watching and listening pleasure.

Chateau des Charmes
2014 Gamay Noir

($14.95 - Winery & LCBO)
Sometimes the simplicity of Gamay can be overwhelming, it’ll make you say “is that all” between sips. But the joy is, you keep sipping. This Chateau version is a real Charm(er) with nice raspberry and cherry notes that you can chill to pump up that fruit, plus there’s a little white pepper on the finish. Perfectly simple, perfectly pleasing and most of all perfectly Charm(ing).
Rating: ****
Dark Horse Estate
2014 Chardonnay, Valegro

($29.95 - Winery Only)
Dark Horse is one of Ontario’s newest wineries (opened July 2016) but it is not located in a traditional wine region, it’s located in Grand Bend at the southern end of Lake Huron.  This Chardonnay is labeled as a “special reserve”, it is both barrel fermented and aged and offers up robust Chardonnay moments without going over the top. Sure it’s oak-driven, but it still has that buttery and spicy character familiar to Chardonnay-lovers plus baked apple, cinnamon/nutmeg, burnt vanilla and butterscotch … It’s Chardonnay with an edge and some oomph.
Rating: ****
2014 Cabernet Franc

($25.95 - Winery Only)
When you only make 3 wines from only 2 grapes, they’d better be good and Honsberger’s winemaker, Kelly Mason, continues to impress with her adept ways of making Cabernet Franc.  Aromas of tobacco, black currant, coffee and white pepper lead to a palate of mocha, black cherry, cassis, red peppercorns and a long finish of gentle spice and cherry-tobacco. For this one you’ve gotta like a cooler vintage Franc with all its spice and herbal notes. Drink 3-5 years.
Rating: ****+
2014 Gamay, Courtney Vineyard

($25.95 - Winery Only)
Layers and depth of flavour are the hallmark of this single vineyard Gamay from Malivoire: aromas sit with cigar box and spicy notes plus blackberry, black pepper and black tea finishing with spiced raspberry and good balancing acidity … the nose and palate run pretty seamlessly together.
Rating: ****+
2014 Cabernet Sauvginon, Platinum Series

($30.00 - Winery Only)
Here’s a ‘wow-wine’, my second this year from Marynissen’s Platinum Series offerings. It’s elegant and smooth and just what the doctor ordered when you’re looking for a resurgence of your brand. Layers of aromas and flavours including cherry-kirsch, floral, chocolate and more with red and black fruit backing … it’s lush and plush and quite mouth-filling – a real winner from Marynissen.
Rating: ****+
The Old Third
2014 Pinot Noir

($45.00 - Winery Only)
Spending 1 year in older oak barrels this wine has developed a delicacy of both nose and palate: sour cherry, cranberry and only slightly smoky with pretty tannins that linger on the finish for added depth.
Rating: ****
