Gilman Overpass Design Not Funded

Flawed plan rejected

As part of the Gilman Interchange project to implement traffic circles at I-80, the Alameda County Transportation Commission (ACTC) plans to construct an overpass for cyclists and pedestrians.

AS&R joined with numerous other organizations to send a letter to ACTC arguing for an overpass that would link the Codornices Creek Pathway to the Gilman playing fields and the Bay Trail.

ACTC stuck with its original plan for the overpass to connect from one side of I-80 to the other at Gilman and applied for a grant. This grant having been denied, AS&R will resume working with partners to advocate for a safer, more useful overpass. Read more.

2016 Donation from Grizzly Peak Cyclists

Support to be put to good use

GPC has been supporting us for years through their Grizzly Peak Century fundraiser, this year donating $1,600. This is our biggest, yearly source of income, and we are grateful for GPC's continuing support. A new order of bike bike racks and an air pump (location to be determined) will be among our first good uses for this money in Albany.

Carlson Blvd. Improvements to Proceed

Major victory for Active Transportation in Our Area

On December 20th, Carlson improvements were given the go ahead by the Richmond City Council. Planned pedestrian and cyclist-focused facilities will help encourage safer motorist speeds, reduce traffic lanes, and include many other upgrades. Carlson is a major cycling route that connects from Oakland through Emeryville, Berkeley, and Albany, to Richmond. It's a major link between Albany and central Richmond, including Kaiser Hospital. This victory is well received. More.
