Looking back on 2016, and forward to 2017

We would like to thank you for your support for our productions in 2016. The year started with the John Godber comedy Bouncers, then LTC Youth brought us a spectacular Phantom of the Opera. In June we presented Shakespeare's comedy Much Ado About Nothing, with a Downton Abbey feel.

Our most recent production was the Monty Python musical Spamalot, which we are delighted to say proved a huge hit with audiences - even those who weren't Monty Python fans. To read the Burton Mail's review of Spamalot click here.

From Snow White to Wendy

Another leading panto role for Sophie

Last year, Sophie Towns was playing Snow White at the Lincoln Drill Hall, in her first professional role after graduating from the London College of Music. This year she'll be playing Wendy in Peter Pan at The Forum in Barrow. In between she toured Europe playing Dorothy in Wizard of Oz. Have a wonderful Christmas on stage, Sophie - and enjoy the flying!

Josh is heading for 42nd Street

The roles keep coming for Josh too

Josh Andrews is about to start a run in the musical Annie Get Your Gun at Sheffield's Crucible Theatre (Dec 9 to Jan 21), and already knows that in the spring he's heading to the West End to join the cast of 42nd Street.

Grammy award-winning Sheena Easton will make her West End debut in the production at the Theatre Royal in Drury Lane. It is due to open on March 20. Tickets are available by visiting www.londontheatre.co.uk/show/42nd-street
 

Congratulations Bill

BADAC newsletter editor thanks his supporters

Bill Pritchard, who edits the Burton and District Arts Council (BADAC) newsletter, has thanked everyone who supported him when he took part in the annual YMCA Burton Sleep Out for the first time.

He gave up his bed for the night to sleep on the floor in one of the concrete tunnels at Burton Albion's Pirelli Stadium. In fact, he tells us, he didn't sleep at all, but loved the experience. About 170 people were at the Pirelli with more doing an extreme sleepout in St Modwen's Church graveyard and a sleepout in Tamworth the previous night..

As demand for the YMCA's services, including its food bank, increases the charity is hoping to raise £30,000 this year. The appeal is open until December 12 so there is still chance to donate to Bill's fundraising page here. Including offline donations, Bill is delighted to have already topped £500.

Jack visits No 10

Small Business Saturday is memorable for Jack

Jack Dent was chosen as one of this year's #SmallBiz100 - 100 businesses chosen from hundreds of applicants to represent Britain's five million small businesses in the run-up to Small Business Saturday, which was December 3.

His day in the national spotlight was October 31, and on December 1 he joined the rest of this year's #SmallBiz100 at a London reception at 11 Downing Street - but there was the unmissable opportunity for selfies outside its more famous next door neighbour.

On Small Business Saturday itself, Jack was kept fully-occupied performing three magic shows for clients.
