1. Beginning Phase II this Spring!

The FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant is finally "in process". It will lift the house, repair the framework and build a new raised foundation underneath it. There are still a couple hurdles to cross, but we are optimistically moving forward. Thanks to your support with our 2014 Crowd Funding Campaign, we have been able to sustain this project through 2015 & 2016 while waiting for this big piece to happen. We will use the remaining balance of your contributions towards the "matching funds" we are required to provide under the terms of the grant.

2. With the help of The Somerset County Arts Council and Tawes Insurance, the Nelson Homestead's first Artist in Residence - Katrina Kadoski - spent 2 weeks at the property in October, researching the history, characters & stories of Crisifeld and Smith Island and is now creating a theater production, The Waterman's Daughter, that will debut on Vancouver Island in April with plans for performances on the Eastern Shore in late Summer.
3. With the support of The Crisfield Heritage Foundation, UMES honors students through the University Engagement and Lifelong Learning (UELL) Initiative spend a weekend in September restoring the Nelson Homestead Graveyard under the supervision of Joe Paden and The Crisfield Story Project. What an awesome team!
