Dear <<First Name>> <<Last Name>>,
we are happy to share with you our monthly newsletter.

NEWS FROM YARD

Swan 55 unveiled

The New Swan 55 represents over 50 years of evolution since the first Swan 55 was designed by Sparkman and Stephens in 1970. It was a legendary model which paved the way to the Swan 57 launched in 1977, the Swan 53 designed by Maestro Germàn Frers and followed by Swan 56 in 1997 and Swan 53 in 2005.
The evolution of the 2021 Swan 55 is meant to write another page in the history of Nautor’s, based on the pillars deeply rooted in Swan’s DNA: Elegance, Quality, Performance and Reliability.

Swan 78-009 from Pietarsaari to the Med

The sixth unit of Swan 78 was launched in early August in Pietarsaari and the owner’s representative comments about the launch of Grey Guam: “Despite some major hurdles (COVID-related delays and change of ownership) we managed to deliver the boat on time. I have our people in production to thank for this - they did a great job!”. The yacht started its first cruise towards the Med and also her captain’s words are full of positive vibes: “it is a privilege sailing with a Swan as powerful and elegant and so perfectly balanced. We have sailed for 4000 miles without feeling the blow”

RACING

Copa del Rey - The Nations League Med
2 – 7 August, Palma de Mallorca (SPA)

The Copa del Rey represented the third event of the Nautor’s Swan Nations League circuit. And it saw some new winners emerge across most classes. In the ClubSwan 50, Hatari led in the qualifiers before being edged into second by fellow German boat Earlybird in the finals. The top spot was in question until the last downwind leg of the last race. Polina Lyubomirova held her nerve to drive Bronenosec 50 into third place – an impressive achievement in only her fourth event.

Among the 11-strong fleet of ClubSwan 42s, there was remarkable consistency around the top three boats, despite very close scoring between the six fastest teams. Romanian George Brailoiu’s Natalia, helmed by Natalia Brailoiu, took first place in the end in a repeat of his performance of 2019, followed by Pedro Vaquer’s Nadir and Jose Maria Meseguer Pez de Abril.

Competition was particularly intense in the ClubSwan 36 class, which had seen a duel between Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio’s G-Spot and Andrea Lacorte’s Vitamina earlier in the season. In Palma’s shifty conditions, G-Spot defended her top spot with bullet after bullet, while Vitamina fell off the pace in the finals. G-Spot’s lead was so commanding that she won the prize for the best performing one design in the event. Lorenzo Mondo’s Farstar and Edoardo Ferragamo’s Thirtysix scrapped for second and third place.

Five Swan 45s raced as part of the ORC1 fleet alongside a range of other fast boats. After the qualifiers, Fernando Chain’s From Now On stood in first place, a position which he defended well to come in second overall in the open classes. Rafael’s Carbonell’s Swan 45 Rats on Fire took third place in the class. And in ORC2, the CS42 Teatro Soho put in a well-earned victory.

CLUBSWAN STORIES

Swan 46 Moonlight refit at Nautor's Swan Global Service

“Moonlight - Swan 46 MKII-099 was purchased by my father back in 1993. As an 8 year old girl little did I know about boats, but nevertheless my father gave me the honour to name her.  And so hull 99 designed by German Frers and built by Nautor was born under the name of ‘Moonlight’.  In 2003 Dad sold her to upgrade to another beautiful Swan - ‘Vega’.

But life is as unpredictable as the wind that changes and my father passed away in a car accident a couple of years after.

Time went by and I forgot the beauty of sailing, its silence, its peace, those 10 years spent on Moonlight.  Last year, almost 15 years after my father’s sudden death and almost 30 years after Moonlight was purchased I felt  a need to find her, to find in her my forgotten memories .

By Googling her name I found the second owner who led me to the third owner in Norway, and finally, thanks  also to  Stefano Leonardi of Nautor’s sells team, I manage to get her back.

She looked exactly as I left her!  I was so impressed - the leather sofas were the same, 30 years they had lasted, as did the floor boards, the winches, even the bed lights were the same… But times have changed I felt that she needed a refit and for this job I chose the Nautor’s Swan Badalona team.  Together we were able to find the right balance between classic and modern, functionality and aesthetics. Past and future.

My main goal was to make the boat’s saloon look wider and more comfortable and the table played a fundamental role in this. We made an extendable table that also becomes a bed and added courtesy lights to add a modern touch.  On deck I wanted to add space and clean up the area so we removed some winches.   This added a lot of space and helped us in sailing the boat.

I really wanted to make my father proud of this project and I’m sure he would be very happy. Thanks to this team, my saling journey can begin again and I can start to learn what it means to be the owner of a Swan.” Veronica de Angelis, proud owner of Swan 46 Moonlight
