Cycling in Norway 2016

4-8 August 2016

240km from Gaustablikk to Oslo

Hello dear friends and supporters!

Registration for the 2016 cycle is now OPEN! Click HERE to sign up!

Our 2016 cycle is taking place in Norway from the 4th to the 8th of August. 50 cyclists from all over the globe will meet at Gaustablikk and cycle 240km ending their journey in Oslo.

Wether you are cycling or not you can also join us before the cycle on the 2nd of August in support of the PACES teams!

Why Norway? This year, we are joining forces with an organisation that also uses sports as a means to make a difference; PACES.  PACES aims to provide opportunities to marginalized Palestinian girls and boys to play sports, flourish and grow in nurturing sanctuaries in order to empower them to become good and active citizens. They will be taking four teams of girls and boys to participate in the Norway Cup (www.norwaycup.no) perfectly coinciding with the cycle. It will be a great opportunity for the cyclists to meet the PACES teams and to cheer them on as they play.

The funds raised in 2016 will be used to support the PACES Projects. We are dedicated to raising GBP 250,000 in support of this project which will be used to support 700 children and their coaches in Gaza.

PACES was founded nine years ago for the almost exclusive aim of developing and funding much-needed sports programs for Palestinian children: for boys who would otherwise be on the streets with nothing to do and therefore exposed to potential extremism, violence and radicalization, and for girls who would be stuck at home feeling marginalized and not empowered. Their initial sets of programs were for 400 children at 6 locations around the Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Ramallah areas. The aim was to add 200-300 children per year but thanks to the generous support of many friends, and institutions, they will have over 6,000 children in their 2016 program cycle, which Cycling4Gaza is supporting.

The funds raised through Cycling4Gaza will be used to support 700 children and their coaches in Gaza. More specifically, 70% of the funds will be used to cover the direct running of the PACES sports and civic social programs in Gaza as follows:

  • Support 28 female and male coaches
  • Support field staff members and programs communication
  • Provide uniforms and equipment for 700 children and their coaches; which are bought locally to support the local economy
  • Civic and social activities that includes health, hygiene, environmental and educational awareness sessions and fun activities for the children
  • Coaches capacity building workshops, parents public meetings and other activities with the sports centers and clubs
  • Support one team of boys/girls from PACES children in Gaza to participate in the 2016 Norway Cup
