It's been a hot summer and the new school year is right around the corner. I've been busy working in the district on behalf of you and planning legislation for the 2023 General Assembly session. Next month, I will be headed back to Richmond for a day to continue the Special Session. In this email are a couple updates about what's going on in the 23rd District.
The 2023 Legislative Session is coming up soon and I want to hear from you about your priorities. I would love to know what legislation you would like to see worked on this year in the General Assembly. Please email me at wendell@wendellwalker.org with your ideas!

Virginia Sales Tax Holiday
From August 5-7, you can buy qualifying school supplies, clothing, footwear, hurricane and emergency preparedness items, and Energy Star and WaterSense products without paying sales tax. With inflation and costs rising, this weekend will be an opportunity for Virginians to save a little bit on some essential items and get materials needed for the upcoming school year. Check out some more information about the upcoming 3-Day Sales Tax Holiday at the Virginia Department of Taxation website.
Attorney General Miyares in Lynchburg
Attorney General Jason Miyares came down to Lynchburg last month to tour the Blue Ridge Pregnancy Center. We had the chance to meet with staff and board members to learn more about what’s happened since the vandalism that occurred. I am grateful for his steadfast leadership and support for our community.
What a special time last month in Lynchburg honoring our nation’s heroes with Secretary Craig Crenshaw at the Monument Terrace Troop Rally. I had the chance to present my resolution passed in the General Assembly honoring them on 20 years of dedication. Central Virginia is home to countless incredible veterans, and I’m honored to represent so many of them in Richmond. Check out the coverage on WSET below.
Door Knocking for the November Election
I had a great time opening the Lynchburg GOP Victory Center and talking to voters about the upcoming election with Senator Peake and Larry Taylor. If you're interested in helping out or want yard signs, please make sure to reach out to the Lynchburg GOP at www.lynchburgrepublicanparty.com.
Building Our Community Together Banquet and Back to School Event
This Friday at 6pm, One Community One Voice - Lynchburg will be hosting a community fundraiser with Hall of Fame Basketball Player Dominique Wilkins. This event will help raise funds for their organization and will help provide kids with shoes, bikes, and other essential items. If you can't make it on Friday, Dominique will be at the University of Lynchburg on Saturday for a basketball clinic for the kids and for a community back to school event. Please consider contributing and I hope to see you there!
