Our Board of Directors has officially announced the appointment of Keith Barker as the new Artistic Director of Native Earth Performing Arts. "In addition to his experience as an actor, director, playwright, and theatre administrator, Keith brings a wealth of knowledge of Indigenous theatre across Canada."

This year marks the 30th Anniversary for our annual festival, Weesageechak Begins to Dance. Now until Sunday, April 30th we are accepting submissions from Indigenous artists in dance, theatre, cabaret, and interdisciplinary works. Once again, we proudly partner with Buddies In Bad Times Theatre to include the 2-Spirit Cabaret. 2-spirit, trans and queer-identified Indigenous artists are encouraged to apply with presentations and works-in-development. Theatre of Upheaval

THEATRE OF UPHEAVAL
ARTISTS RECOUNT EXPERIENCE

Native Earth facilitated the attendance of Indigenous artists at the Theatre of Upheaval workshops, in partnership with Volcano Theatre & Canadian Stage. Smith Purdy called it "an eclectic and deeply heartfelt reflection on life, death, family and belonging," and Amanda Trapp said the conversations were "fascinating, progressive, inspired, and hilarious." We also welcome a new Patron Services Rep. to Aki Studio Box Office, Samantha McCue. Sam is a recent York U grad who grew up on the Musqueam Reserve in Vancouver, BC, and moved to Toronto in 2013. She is Anishnaabe from the Chippewas of Georgina Island and Ne’tut’en from Lake Babine. Her traditional name is Niigaaninaabikwe, or “Woman Who Looks Ahead”. More About Samantha

Now-Apr 15 | Sagebrush Theatre Native Earth's Joelle Peters is currently in Kamloops, British Columbia, where she is performing in Western Canada Theatre's production of The Cure for Death by Lightning by Daryl Cloran. The play is part of WCT’s (Re)Imagine series, which also includes Drew Hayden Taylor's Only Drunks and Children Tell the Truth. Joelle will also play the role of Beth in Taylor's play, directed by Lisa C. Ravensburgen.
