For 100th Anniversary of The Dillard House
Back before roads cut through our mountains, local inns grew their own produce, raised their own meat and bartered for other food items— farm to table. Rabun County’s The Dillard House will celebrate its 100th Anniversary on Saturday, March 25th, with a special event—Wine Dine & Punchlines (reception with hors d’oeuvres, five local wines paired with a four-course dinner prepared by well-known Athens Chef Tim Dondero of Dondero’s Restaurant). The program also features TV personality, award-winning sommelier and comedian Laurie Foster, who will deliver an edgy, off-beat take on wine and wine tasting, including a few of her favorite North Georgia wines. Tickets ($75) are available here. The Dillard House is offering room specials: / Promo Code WINE.
State of the Vineyard
Carl Fackler, winegrower & winemaker
Although we don’t like cold weather, we’re hoping it gets colder and stays that way for another month or more. The warmer than usual winter so far may cause the grapevines to come out of dormancy earlier than usual and then be vulnerable to a late spring freeze. So far, they are still dormant, and we’re working on winter pruning. We’re leaving two or three times as many buds than we need with the hope that if there is a late spring freeze and it kills half of the buds, then we still have plenty left. However, it doesn’t always work.
New Releases in the Works – (the “family” wines) Boriana, Yukari (Rosé), Three Eagles; and Cabernet Franc, Norton, Whitetail.

We’ve missed our tasting friends. Greeter Max has been moping around.
