Dual-Vocational Training, Sequa & NGCC Partnership.

Mr. Peter Porten, Marilyn Rapu & Mr. Jonathan Osadolor

We had the honour of hosting Mr. Peter Porten (Technical and vocational education and training-TVET Team Leader Sequa) and Mr. Jonathan Osadolor (TVET Partnership Coordinator Sequa), the purpose of their visit was to inspect the trainees on the current Technical Facility Operation and Maintenance Training, offered by the NGCC and Sequa partnership for the construction industry. Dual Vocational Training (DVT) a Component of the programme Skills Development for Youth Employment – SKYE offers opportunities for combining training centre learning with workplace-based training. The combination of theory and practice gives trainees a head start into employment since they acquire technical knowledge and gain hands-on experience by the time training is completed.

Mr. Jonathan Osadolor, Mr. Peter Porten, Inusa Zafari & Emmanuel Chukurah

The team visited Inusa Zafari, a TFOM trainee, who is currently on his industrial attachment with First New Generation LTD, a Construction company in Victoria Island Lagos. Inusa is an architecture graduate from Amadu Bello University.

Inusa said “the training so far has improved his confidence in solving different problems in his workplace; he also suggested the Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) for TFOM should be introduced to undergraduates and should have a department in universities.

TVET will continue to play an important role in the shift towards more knowledge-intensive societies. Many countries have identified TVET programmes as core components in their long-term development strategies.
