Charisse SnipesName: Jeanine C Fair
Position: Human Resources Administration
Hometown:Hartford, CT
College/degree: Charter Oak State College/Organizational Leadership (in progress)

Mission for Department: Increase the overall value of the City by recruiting and developing individuals through the use of HR services.

What Made You Come To Hartford:  I was born and raised in the City of Hartford and was given an internship opportunity while attending high school and college, through the City’s Student Intern program.  I knew at an early age that I wanted to make a difference in my community.  My internship afforded me the opportunity to explore my career options and led me to my current leadership role in the Department of Human Resources.  As a current Hartford resident and employee, I am in the position to lead by example and encourage my neighbors to seek employment with the City we call home..

What Do You Most Look Forward To About Working In Hartford:  I look forward to working on creating opportunities to develop existing employees and creating partnerships with local schools and organizations to recruit quality potential employees.

ICYMI: Hartford Launches Welcome Center To Aid People Returning From Prison

The heavy door at the back of Hartford’s city hall has been locked shut the last few years, the offices inside dark and vacant.

But it was propped wide open on Wednesday, preparing to beckon in dozens of people who traverse the city streets with no clear direction. Hartford leaders launched a welcome center — the first of its kind in the region — for those who are freshly released from prison.

The cluster of empty offices was converted to a hub, complete with private meeting spaces, comfy seats and computer stations, that will provide resources for formerly incarcerated people who are not on parole or probation. The state Department of Correction has coordinated a new drop-off point near city hall to ensure returning citizens have direct and immediate access.

ICYMI: Construction Of Long-Sought Grocery Store Near Downtown Hartford Could Start In A Year

Grocery store

Construction of a full-service grocery store in Hartford — a project that has long proven elusive — could get underway in a year, part of a $23 million development that would serve both the downtown and the city’s northern neighborhoods.

The State Bond Commission will vote next week on whether to devote $8.5 million for the project. The push for a grocery store is being led by the Hartford Community Loan Fund, a private, not-for-profit that focuses on neighborhood revitalization, and the city of Hartford.

ICYMI: Hartford Hospital bows $5M inpatient rehab unit

Hartford Hospital recently opened a new 26-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit in its main building on Seymour Street.

The 21,000-square-foot unit represents an approximately $5 million investment, according to Hartford HealthCare, which said the space was formerly a medical-surgical area.

The facility will provide specialized physical, occupational and speech therapy to patients with multiple sclerosis, stroke, Parkinson's disease, brain or spinal cord injuries, amputation and other conditions, the health system said.
