Here are a couple of things that we wanted to make everyone aware of for your ongoing prayers and consideration.
Re-starting central Sunday gatherings
It still seems that we are a long way off from all being able to worship together as we would like. We are though beginning to make plans to hold smaller worship gatherings in our buildings on a Sunday morning from September 13th, starting at 9.30am.
We can’t all gather yet
We are aware that not everyone will be able to gather for a variety of reasons:
To maintain social distancing, we will need to restrict the numbers; and people will need to book in advance
We will be unable to provide support for children and young people, and recognise that currently the guidance discourages those that have been shielding or who are vulnerable from gathering
We also recognise that many people remain anxious and may choose not to gather for a variety of reasons.
We will therefore continue our online celebrations at 10:45 am and the encouragement for us to do that with others as much as possible. Thank you to everyone who has already been helping us reconnect.
We hope however that this new opportunity for Word and Prayer (unfortunately we are unable to sing) will provide:
a different experience to the one online. (We recognise that however good the online experience is that it is ultimately no substitute for physically gathering without restrictions)
an opportunity for prayer and worship especially for those whose home situation makes that more difficult
an opportunity to be back in the building, which, whilst not part of our theology, is important to some for a variety of reasons
We will share more details nearer the time, but in order to keep us following current legislation and guidelines:
People will need to book in advance, leaving their details for ‘track and trace’
Hand sanitiser will be used on entry
Face-masks will be mandatory
Social distancing will need to be maintained
Access to other parts of the building will be prohibited (other than the disabled toilet)
No interaction will be possible between households
Please be prayerful with us as we put these plans into place and seek to create another opportunity for us to continue to reconnect.
As you are aware, we were due to have our trustee elections the day after lockdown was announced. We missed it by a smidge!!
We have been extremely grateful to our current trustees who have continued to serve us through this particularly difficult season. As we settle into a more long-term scenario with the slow easing of lockdown it seems appropriate for us to plan to continue with these elections in the autumn.
I am delighted that all those who were originally nominated have agreed to stand: Paul Boulton, Becky Garland, Becky Willson, Jane & Chris Hewson, Nathan Luetchford, Alice Speedie, Jonathan Barnes (Secretary) and Jonathan Chalmers (Treasurer).
More details will follow in due course, but it is our hope that we will be able to hold our church meeting on October 20th which will be the date of the elections. We anticipate being able to provide the facility for people to vote online for the elections as well as postal votes for those unable to vote online, and possibly a hybrid approach for the meeting itself with some people present and others online. We will also need to approve the budget for the coming year.
As ever, please don't hesitate to be in touch with any thoughts or reflections.
With every blessing to you all
