Beer and Girl Scout Cookies!

You asked and we listened. Our previous cookie pairing event was an incredible success, but you all wanted more. Who are we to say no to more beer and cookies?

Saturday February 11 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. (or while supplies last), support your local brewery and local Girl Scouts from Troop 20177 with a cookie pairing at the brewery.

Enjoy a selection of three pre-selected beers served in five ounce glasses with three cookies for just $8. No advance tickets, simply order at the bar.

In addition, Girl Scouts will on site from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. selling boxes of cookies to take home. With your support during our previous event, the Girl Scouts sold over 130 boxes!

This will likely be the last event of this kind for the season, so enjoy it while you can!

Rye India Pale Ale with Oranges and Honey - 7.1% ABV

Do you enjoy tropically hopped India Pale Ales full of enticingly aromatic real fruit? Due South is proud to fulfill that need with the release of our Hopicana Rye IPA brewed with real fresh hand-juiced oranges and honey from Palm Beach County.

This 7.1% alcohol by volume delight takes a straightforwardly delicious IPA recipe and adds a bit of rye malt that lends it a crisp, slightly spicy character. This foundation is built upon with a selection of American hops and the addition of sweet and bitter oranges and an increased crispness from the use of honey.

It's a beer with incredible flavors we managed to confine into four packs of 12 ounce cans, which are available now in our taproom and across the Due South Brewing distribution footprint at most specialty beer shops and some specific bars and restaurants.

This month we are featuring our Brand Marketing Manager Doug. He comes to us from the world of media, having worked for publishing house American Media, Inc. and most recently as a writer for the Broward - Palm Beach New Times.

How did you get into craft beer?
In 2005, I discovered Sam Adams Boston Lager at a local restaurant, and that showed me beer wasn't just 'light lager'. Soon after friends started getting into Belgian beers -- think Chimay, Duvel, and St. Bernardus Abt 12 -- and those beers opened my taste buds to what was possible.

Favorite beer style? Why?
While I'm a huge fan of porters and stouts (Legendairy Milk Stout is phenomenal), the classic 'Best' or Special Bitter is a personal favorite. I have a soft spot for English ales, especially those served 'warm' hand pulled from a cask. There's something incredibly refreshing about a sub-4% alcohol pale ale full of bready malts and floral English hops.

What Due South beer are you most excited about this year?
I'm always intrigued at the special brews our guys in the brewhouse come up with. Joel and Troy put together some interesting flavors, and they've been incredibly on-point. I think what they did for Trench Day this year speaks volumes. But to get to the point, I'm looking forward to the imminent release of Curse of the Irish Red, our malt-forward red ale that's going to be the ultimate beer St Patrick's Day.

What has surprised you the most about working at a brewery?
Many people think that it's easy work, that we're all just sitting around tasting beer every day. The truth is it's a complicated business with a lot of moving parts. I'd say what has been most surprising is the level of work that everyone does here: everyone I talk to goes above and beyond to make the best product. We're talking people giving up nights, weekends, and working however long it takes to get the job done.

Recent Beer Releases

Here are some new beers now available in the taproom and in the market

Midnight Marauder
Black IPA  7.7% ABV
Midnight Marauder is simply a masterpiece built with copious amounts of dark malts to lend an extra coffee-like roastiness to the bitter and hop-forward flavor profile of an India Pale Ale. Available on draft at the brewery along with a limited release run of 12 ounce cans.

Weekender Weisse
Berliner Weisse — 3.6% ABV
Weekender Weisse is our take on the German style Berliner Weisse. Originated in the city of Berlin, this wheat based beer utilizes the souring bacteria Lactobacillus to give a tart, lemony flavor and aroma.  The low ABV and crisp finish makes this a refreshing choice.
