To Comfort always, to Relieve often, to Save sometimes    March 2017

Dear Friends and Supporters,
March has been a busy month here at New Hope! We’ve welcomed new children, new volunteers and several guests and visitors all throughout the month. All the while, our children have been keeping busy making great use of our playground now that spring time is here.
We are very grateful this month for a large donation from our friend Carina Lau from Hong Kong. This donation was very timely as it came the same week as we were asked to take in 6 children from another home in Beijing which temporarily had to close. These admissions brought our bed number in Beijing from 48 back up to 54.
Despite this very generous donation, we do have some other pressing needs that have come as a bit of a surprise this month. The first is for medical support for Charlotte, a little 3-year-old girl admitted to MBHOH in Luoyang in February of this year, then transferred to our Beijing home. Charlotte has a liver condition which will mean that she needs a liver transplant as soon as a suitable match is found. At the moment she is in Tianjin Hospital awaiting that transplant. Please keep Charlotte in your prayers, that she would remain well as she waits. The cost for the transplant and follow up treatment will be in the region of US $40,000. We really would appreciate any support you can give towards these costs.

The second need we have is for a new heating unit for our Shunyi home. The government has recently banned the use of coal in Beijing to control pollution in the area. This means we have to replace our existing coal boiler with a new gas-fired one. We have obtained quotations for the new boiler and we need US $45,000 to cover the cost. Again any help towards this would be really appreciated.

With Love and Gratitude,

Robin, Joyce and the New Hope Staff

A Few More Thanks to Give...
As we mentioned above, March was full of visits and groups here at New Hope. Much to the children's excitement, Dr. Mark Chan from MedArt visited us this month. Many of the children knew him from Hong Kong where they had surgery and where he was their pediatrician. Dr. Chan has assisted our work for a very long time, and we are so thankful for him.

We are also very happy to have welcomed 3 volunteers this month. Ananya, from Singapore, who was here last spring has returned for a month during her spring break from University. We've also welcomed Mike, from the USA, who will be with us for a little over a month. Lastly Kelsi, also from the USA and a past summer intern at MBHOH, has come to help us for 2 months. Kelsi spent her first 2 weeks with us in Hong Kong caring for Kale and is now back helping us in Beijing.

In addition to new volunteers, we also hosted two student groups this month who helped us with various projects around the home including painting, cleaning and planting flowers. We are very grateful to these students for all their hard work!

Kenzli had checkups in Tianjin this month. Zacchaeus was transferred to our Luoyang Special Care Center, MBHOH. Charlotte and Addie were transferred to our home from MBHOH; as mentioned above, Charlotte is currently in Tianjin awaiting a liver transplant. Art returned from Hong Kong doing very well. We admitted 6 new children (as mentioned above); however, two of the new children needed to return to their orphanages shortly after they came. Six children also went to Suzhou with MedArt for surgery and evaluations: Isaac, Justice, Addie, Primo-Antonio, Sam and Deleila.

We are so pleased that Abigail-Dorcas and Asher were adopted this month!

Adelaide, Omar, and Tresne were all adopted this month! It was wonderful to have so many families visit our units this month with their children.
