EU construction roadmap & High-Level Construction Forum

On the 28th of September, the European Commission held an online meeting of the re-launched High Level Construction Forum (HLCF). The objective was to discuss and prepare the co-drafting of the EU Construction roadmap that will be organised in the coming weeks and months. On the occasion of this kick-off meeting, our President, Cédric de Meeûs, spoke on behalf of our Construction 2050 Alliance and debated with other guests the green and digital transformation of our industry. The HLCF foresees the creation of three construction cluster groups named Digital, Resilient, and Green, with the first meetings taking place on 19th, 20th, and 22nd October respectively.

Whilst the Alliance submitted feedback in terms of the drafting process, Construction Products Europe submitted detailed content that has already been seen by a great number of Commission officials and stakeholders. Read more...

Recovery and Resilience Task Force (RECOVER)

On 29th September, our members spoke with Céline Gauer, Head of the European Commission Recovery and Resilience Task Force (RECOVER). The main topic was obviously the steering of the implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Facility, and the review and validation of national plans. Alongside our President, Cédric de Meeûs, Anna Ryberg Ågren (Byggmaterialindustrierna) and Isidoro Miranda (LafargeHolcim) presented their views about the Swedish and Spanish plans and highlighted the opportunity of this action for the construction industry. Digitisation for Construction Product Manufacturers: A Plain Language Guide

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) published a guide focused on construction products and the delivery of digital information. The document is expected to guide manufacturers when taking decisions related to data and its exchange. Our initiative Smart CE marking is cited as the reference methodology when dealing with the Construction Products Regulation information. Read more...

Spanish standard on Smart CE for cement

The Spanish standardisation body (UNE) in collaboration with the cement industry published last month the first product specific Smart CE standard, UNE 80000 "Digital Declaration of Performance for cement according to EN 197-1". The document provides detailed instructions to develop Declarations of Performance for cement in XML according to UNE 41316, the Spanish version of CWA 17316 "Smart CE marking for construction products"

General Consumer Safety Regulation (GPSR)

This week we published our input to the legislative proposal presented by the European Commission on this important topic. Our industry consider that construction products should be excluded from the General Product Safety Regulation because they are covered by the Construction Products Regulation (EU 305/2011) which is in the process to be revised and addresses the specificities of the construction business. Mr Mikkeli farewell

The Construction Products Regulation is like collecting stamps, you can either talk about a particular detail for hours or fail to comprehend the attraction. For years, our colleague Tapani Mikkeli was our CPR go-to person at the European Commission and his confidence when discussing any parts of the text would never fail to make you wonder if you had ever read it at all. As the saying goes, all good things come to an end, and Tapani discreetly left DG GROW and Brussels at the end of September to enjoy a well-deserved retirement. On behalf of all those of you who ever worked with him these last decades, we thanked him and wished him a restful and worthwhile retirement.
